Vancouver, B.C., April 25, 2025 – Seacork Studio Inc, an innovative climate tech company based in Vancouver, is proud to announce it has been awarded $350,000 in funding from the NorthX Climate Tech (Northx). This investment is part of NorthX's inaugural Women in Climate Tech Call for Innovation, aimed at accelerating breakthrough climate solutions that drive decarbonization and inclusive economic growth. “Backing diverse founders isn’t charity—it’s how we win,” said Sarah Goodman, President and CEO of NorthX. “When we bring more voices to the table, we unlock better ideas, build stronger businesses, and find smarter solutions.”
Seacork Studio develops carbon-negative acoustic panels made from seaweed, an alternative to conventional carbon and waste-intensive construction materials. Acoustic panels are everywhere, installed in commercial and institutional buildings like offices, classrooms, and event spaces. They absorb sound and reduce noise in interior spaces. The challenge is that most acoustic panels are made from mineral fibre or plastics like polyester and polystyrene, which are carbon-intensive to manufacture and end up in landfills after 5-15 years of use.
By using seaweed as a biomaterial alternative to mineral fibre and plastic-based felts, Seacork can create acoustic panels that are both carbon-negative and biodegradable. This funding will enable the company to scale its production and accelerate market entry, supporting broader adoption in the construction and design sectors.
“We are thrilled to have NorthX's support to accelerate our transformation of building materials to a regenerative model.” said Annie Dahan, Founder and CEO of Seacork Studio. “This funding underscores the critical role women-led ventures play in driving innovation, economic growth, and environmental stewardship.”
Selected among 58 applicants, Seacork Studio was recognized for its scalable solution that addresses both climate action and sustainable development goals. By leveraging seaweed, Seacork Studio’s products significantly reduce the embodied carbon of buildings, supporting decarbonization targets. This funding marks an exciting milestone for Seacork Studio as it continues to pioneer sustainable materials innovation.
